Collard leafers are the fastest leafers in the industry. The main head of the leafer has two rotary heads inside that blows pulsing compressed air into the canopy. This shreds leaves that are within about 4" of the head. Older units had trouble cutting the more mature berries but this new double blower design all but eliminates that. The unit is very simple with few moving parts. There is very little yearly maintenance to be performed as is found with the other "suck and cut" models. Normally leafing with a Collard starts as early as the end of bloom and can continue into berries sizing up past pea size. Leafing speeds range from 1.4 MPH to 2.6 MPH on most wine grape canopies. These blow style leafers also dislodge dried leaves and other material in the canopy and blows them out. This helps in the reduction of MOG when harvesting.
